Just my two cents.
FSS trid to go for the brass ring but overreached, the business reality caught up with them, that's all.
They didn't set out with a plan to screw anyone, why all the hate ? :-|
I've been following the game for a very, very long time. I'm frustrated -- deeply so.
The game was a disappointment. Most of us tried to like it. But it certainly didn't turn out the way we wanted it to be. Now, guys like Bill might say that everyone disappointed in the game had 'unreasonable' expectations, but all we wanted from Hellgate was a good game, really. It wasn't.
I even turned down several lucrative offers to sell the website before Hellgate's launch because my colleagues and I wanted to dedicate ourselves to the community, to the game. In addition, we also thought we could eventually get a better deal where we'd have managed to retain total creative control over the development of the website.
When I go to my other website, HellgateGuru.com, and take a look at the population on the forums, a far cry from what it was during its heyday, or even several months after the game's release, it makes me feel a pang of regret. Years dedicated -- to this? What is Hellgate Guru but a monument to an epic failure?
That's pretty much how I feel about it.
